a girl (Jean) is in a foreign country (china.) she wants to go to america, as thats her own country, but the communists decide to show their faces and make war. does this mean she can't make it to america? will she get through the war and get to the end destination? well read the book if you want to know!
In my opinion, the main conflict in the story is that Jean lives in China, in the period of time when the locals are starting to make a revolution in the country against the foreigners. It is very hard for Jean, because she is a foreigner and her family and her aren't appreciated there. In fact, they are treated very poorly. The locals insult them, spit at them and they throw stones aiming them. She faces many troubles staying in China. For example, her family has to suddenly move away from their house to somewhere else due to the protests. Although Jean isn't the reason people should be angry at, they were always angry at her just because she was a foreigner. She wishes to go to America, where she thinks she belongs.
I agree that Jean was not specifically responsible for the hatred being displayed towards the foreigners but it happened to be that she was in the 'wrong' place at the 'wrong' time.
To me the main conflict in this story is that Jean lives in China but longs to go back to America where she thinks she truly belongs. That summer her family is scheduled to move back to America and Jean is very delighted! Just before they are about to move home, protests and revolutions start happening. The Chinese don't like foreigners staying over there, ruling there country and getting more right than them. This is what influences the Revolution. Jean and her mom are forced to move out of China before the date scheduled, but her dad stays behind to help people who are sick and injured. Jean may be happy that she is leaving earlier, but it is much harder to leave. All her plans to say good-bye to her friends and Lin Nai-Nai must happen much quicker. Are her plans going to be ruined or will she reach America safely? or not.....
In Homesick, Jean has always wanted to go back to America. She is forced to wait for 12 years to see her home territory. The main cause of the conflict in the story is, Jean being an American in China. The foreigners had very brutal treatment by the locals. Foreigners were spat at by the natives and were called the name, “Foreign Devil”. The Chinese made the missionaries feel out of place. In addition, the Chinese revolutionary war made it much more dreadful and bitter on the outsiders. The angry locals started to blackmail the foreign people to pay double for everything they did. It became such a mess; the concession residents were forced to flee Hankow. Jean’s family left after the war had started, but still, Jean was not completely accepted in America. Most Americans insulted, made fun of, and disrespected Jean and the Chinese people. Being out of place was the main conflict in the book. It had made Jean face many awful predicaments. But, in the end she made it back to her home and had some classmates accept her as an American friend.
I think the main conflicting the story is that through out Jean's stay in China, she yearns to be in America because she feels that she does not belong in China. Then the doubt comes to reality when the local people in China were treating the foreigners in outrageous and sinister ways, like spitting at them and give them names like "foreign devils" and that created a feeling that they were not wanted in China. Her father pre-poned the trip to America because of the bitter and dreadful treatment that the Chinese locals meted out towards the foreigners.
Basically Jean was an American living in China and wanted to go back to America where she has not been to. The main cause or conflict in the story is, Jean is an American who wants to go back to America from China. In summer the family decided to go to America. But the Chinese people don’t like foreigners because the foreigners wanted to capture their land and country and because of this Chinese people started protests and revolutions. Then because of the protests and revolutions Jean and her family is forced to move out of China. But then Jean’s father is supposed to stay back to help the injured and sick people, and so Jean has to go back to America.
it is about a girl (Jean) who lives in china but wants to go to America since she belongs there. But the Chinese people started protests and revolutions. Then because of the protests and revolutions Jean's father was forced to stay back to help the injured people so there plan had to be dilated to go out of China. But then woman and children were forced to leave china but there father had to stay longer. After someday after the father left china the arrived America and Jean felt home.
Jean lives in China, but she wants to go back America. In summer, Jean and her family dicided to go back America, but chinese people started revolution and potests, because they do not like foreigners. The family and Jean could not go out of China, but after that woman and children were forced to leave china. Jean's father had to stay. After that Jean came back America.
The main conflict would probably be that, Jean and her family wanted to go to America, but because of the revolution Jean and her family had to stay for the fight. The second conflict would be when Jean's sister died.

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like the blurb for the novel "Homesick." Describe the conflict in your own words and then expand with details, Simon.
